Volunteer
Your Way
“ The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the
service of others.” - Mahatma Gandhi
The Moccasin Bend Council is fueled by the passion of volunteers who
positively serve girls and our community. We recognize that some individuals
may not have the time or desire to serve as a Girl Scout leader. Below
are other ways you may become a Girl Scout volunteer.
Episodic--As
an episodic volunteer, you can choose a time commitment that fits
your schedule such as coordinating a one-time event or an annual project
or share a special talent or skill with our girls.
Virtual--As a virtual volunteer, you
can participate in the lives of girls without being physically present,
working behind the scenes to organize activities or events or offering
clerical or administrative support to the council staff.
Corporate--Corporate volunteerism is
an opportunity for local businesses to support Girl Scout ideals and
goals by encouraging employees to become involved in our program,
serving as board members, group leaders or task group volunteers.
Your level of participation is up to you. We will work with you to
create a volunteer role that best suits your time, talents, or special
skills.
Contact our V.P.
of Member Services to discuss your participation in the Girl Scouts. |

Career
Mentors Needed!
The Girl Scouts of Moccasin Bend Council is dedicated solely
to girls in helping them build character and skills for success
in the real world by providing them the opportunities to heighten
their career aspirations and increase self confidence during
adolescence.
Mentoring is built around the basic idea that youth and adults
can build relationships that benefit youth over the long haul.
Mentoring gives adults the chance to talk realistically with
girls about whats working and what isnt in order
to prepare them to join us in board rooms, classrooms, and
operating rooms in the 21st century.
We encourage everyone, no matter how busy, important or influential,
to take the time to make the difference in the life of a young
person. Help make a difference for todays girls
and
tomorrows leaders. Become part of Moccasin Bend Councils
mentoring programs and help promote career opportunities for
these young women.

I
Would Love to Volunteer, But...
...I Work.
Most volunteers work outside the
home.
...I don't have the
time. Many options exist for Girl Scout volunteers from short-term
positions, to co-op troops, to weekend meetings.
...I can't meet during
the day. You can meet in the evening, on a Saturday, weekly,
or every other week. We will match you with the troop or position
that will meet your schedule.
...I don't know anything
about being a leader. You don't have to be an expert at anything.
We will train you. The only thing you need in order to lead a troop
is a desire to help girls grow.
...Is training necessary?
Training is essential so that girls will enjoy the best possible
experience in Girl Scouting. Basic training is available in group
sessions in many locations.
...I can't meet at my
home. You can hold a troop meeting at a church, school, recreation
center, college, community room, or private home.
...I have other children.
It's very likely one of the parents will watch your children during
the troop meeting.
...I have limited income and cannot afford
to buy Girl Scout materials. The council provides training
and support materials without charge to volunteers. Financial
assistance
is available to help adult volunteers pay for Girl Scout handbooks
and the $10 national membership dues.
