Shadow a female professional who works in broadcasting.

Whether you are interested in being a TV or radio producer, cameraperson, anchor, DJ, or somone behind the scenes, girls will enjoy the fast-paced world of communications.

  Career Trek

Grades 10-12
A one-on-one mentoring program. Girls will investigate different career options, choose an area of interest, research educational requirements, develop a resume, practice interview skills, meet many professional women, and visit college campuses within a 200-mile radius of Chattanooga.

EarthPACT
(Plants and Animal Conservation Team)

An environmental mentoring program
Cadette and Seniors

  • explore careers while doing field research work;
  • choose one area of study: amphibians, birds, environmental law, fish, geology, insects, land management, mammals, plants, reptiles, or wildlife rehabilitation;
  • work one-on-one with a university professor, one of the area's foremost naturalists, professionals, or environmental educators;
  • help restore an ecologically important habitat at the Pot Point House in the Tennessee River Gorge;
  • spend a weekend going on night hikes, participating in outdoor "games" and restoring a vernal wetland;
  • participate in "Eco-Island."

PHYSICIANS of TOMORROW
Mentoring Program (PTMP)

Girl Scouts ages 15-17

Participants will:

  • explore the challenges and opportunities of a career in medicine;
  • be paired with a female physician (of various specialities);
  • observe the practice of medicine in an office and/or hospital setting;
  • understand the training necessary to become a physician

OTHER MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES

AMERICAN FISHERIES SOCIETY SUMMER
Mentoring Program

for minority and girls for the summer after 10th, 11th, and 12th grades.
This $3,000 scholarship program is designed to promote greater diversity within the fisheries profession by exposing students to career opportunities in the field of fisheries science. Students accepted into the program are matched with professional mentors and enjoy a hands-on fisheries science experience in a marine or freshwater setting. The assignment normally begins in June and lasts for 8 weeks and is made with a participating organization within reasonable commuting distance from the students. Applications must be submitted by March 1 of each year.
